A video guide to Makena State Beach, also known as Big Beach, on Maui’s south side. Big Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Maui. Snorkeling is good, but beware of various ocean conditions here (strong currents, big waves) – better for the advanced snorkeler. If waves are big, boogie boarding can be awesome here, but watch the break on big days – can be rough (I went to rehab for both arms after a nasty body surfing tumble).
