Meet Dan O’Brien

Aloha, and welcome to my little corner of the internet.

I’ve worked in every aspect of video production for 20 years now. In the bay, out in the field, on a soundstage, shooting, editing, producing, writing, and probably a few that I can’t even remember! Video production is my life. It lets me explore all of my interests at once; photography, problem solving, technology, organization, graphic design, broadcasting, budgeting. This is what keeps me up until 2am and wakes me up at 7am the next morning… ok, maybe more like 9am, but still!

I came to Maui in 2007 after 10 years working at PBS-Los Angeles (call letters KCET). PBS schooled me. A decade there gave me such a wealth of knowledge and skills. That’s one advantage of working at a non-profit: there’s never enough people to do the job, so you learn to wear a lot of hats. First, I started learning live studio production working on their fundraising drives. That led me to the edit bay, where I learned how to write, produce, and edit promo spots and marketing videos. Then I had the great honor of being Lead Producer on our company-wide rebranding campaign. By 2007 I was Senior Producer, organizing online edit workflows, producing image campaigns, managing our brand. That job was the best thing that happened to me, but eventually it was time for a change. That’s where Maui comes in.
